I'm listening to a Clive Anderson doc on BBC Radio 4 about the birth of Alternative Comedy in 1979 (you can probably find the show to listen to for seven days here, maybe) and someone has made a good point that, because alternative comics were right-on and not making "take my wife" or mother-in-law jokes they changed them a bit and made them about Margaret Thatcher, alternative comics could be as misogynistic towards Thatcher as people like Manning were towards her indoors.
