What do I need to do to achieve what I consider important in the coming year?
1. Overview: Ehwaz Movement, Reversed.
Going nowhere, movement that does not benefit you. Not all journeys are beneficial. This may be the time to wait.
2. The Challenge: Sowelu Wholeness.
The impulse towards self-realization. A time for regeneration. A measured response to need. Pick your battles wisely. Open yourself to the light.
3. Course of Action: Ansuz Signals, Reversed.
Messages. Communication has in the past been unclear. A sense of futility. Consider the uses of adversity.
Well, could I have had a more timely reading for the start of a new year? I've written here about how I felt I'd not been able to achieve anything last year, reading Movement Reversed as the exact opposite of what's said for Movement, rather than the 'it's not so bad' outlook that my book has, would certainly describe 2003 accurately. The rune card for Movement has a ship flying through a cloudy sky. I was always described by teachers as having my head in the clouds in school reports, something I disagreed with bitterly when my parents got sent them, as I believed I did concentrate in lessons, despite the best efforts of the teachers to try and present subjects as being as dull and irrelevent to us as possible. All three cards are about flying through the sky, Wholeness is a flock of birds passing before the sun, Signals is one bird carrying a branch over water.
All three cards suggest movement is possible but I must do so carefully, mindfully which, given my complete lack of 'suddenly running off to join a mad cult' tendencies makes this an ideal reading. Reversed movement does not mean no movement, just that it may take a while to arrive. In the mean time I should prepare myself. The sun illuminates us in all our faults, so perhaps another period of self-examination is in order (oh joy! This bit's easy!), leave behind those aspects of myself that I dislike so I can fly away. And as I begin this process I must be mindful of the feedback I get, from myself and others, even if it's negative it will still be useful in clarifying where I go next.
I was going to do a tarot reading as well tonight, see if it contrasted or repeated what the rune cards thought, but I'm too tired to do it properly, so I might try and do it at the weekend. It's been a good while since I did a reading for myself...
