Since the nineteenth century many an artist has claimed that he fought the good fight against stuffy conventionalism by baiting the bourgeois. Which is part of my problem with a lot of modern art, especially most of the 'Sensation' stuff, empty controversialism, designed to bait the opinion columns of the Daily Mail or the Telegraph, not to make you think in any way about the world around you or yourself. But what do I know?
